I'm happy to report that we've found a couple of very amazing products from Luxology and were able to broker a nice discount coupon for each of them. First is Luxology's state-of-the-art 3D modeling software MODO 202. Although not a Photoshop specific tool, it's used by many Photoshop artists, and we're offering a $100 discount coupon for this industrial strength 3D software. We also have a $10 discount coupon for Luxology's imageSynth texture and background generator. This is a Photoshop plugin that's receiving rave reviews. Look below for the coupon codes, some quick info about the products, and links that will take you to our full spotlight pages, which also include links to the full demos. (posted by Jennifer Apple)

Did you know that via drag and drop you can not only "move" documents, you can also "add" documents to a folder? ? That means instead of just changing from their current location (such as your Inbox) to the new folder, they also stay in their current location as well. ?It is called "add" instead of "copy", because copy sounds like it is creating an additional document, which it is not as I
explain here.
In the animation below you can see that my inbox starts with four documents. ?Two of them are moved to a new folder via drag and drop. ?After the drop, the two documents are no longer displayed in the Inbox. ?Also notice how the folders expand when I hover over them.
This time I will do the same thing, but before I drop the documents, I press the CTRL key on my keyboard. ?The mouse cursor changes, adding a "+" sign,

?indicating that the documents are being "added" not moved. ? Notice after the drop the two documents are in the new folder, but they also remain in the Inbox.
The is extremely useful when you want to place a document in more than one folder.

When looking at an access control list (ACL) in a Lotus Notes database, you can only view information for one ACL entry at a time. For easier analysis, this LotusScript code from SearchDomino.com member Joe Steblay compiles all ACL information for a selected Lotus Notes database in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet with auto-filtered column headings.

I'm finally a believer. See, a few months ago, before I went on my Russia trip, I decided to install Windows Vista Beta 2. I was an early Win2K user and was able to use it (at home even) from Beta 1 on. Ditto with XP. Since I was giving a keynote I thought it would be nice for me to show off some of the great new look and feel features of Vista like Aero Glass, etc. A few days before I left, I pushed a clean install of Vista onto my laptop, a Toshiba M5. Install was rough. For some reasons the hardware laptops is nothing like that on desktops. Even with XP, it's not unusual to have to go dig up drivers for networking adapters, Bluetooth, etc. So for Vista, I had to install a bunch of alpha drivers, and even a pre-release BIOS. Yikes. So I got...(

Earlier this summer I posted two tutorials on using Windows Authentication with ASP.NET:Enabling Window Authentication within an Intranet ASP.NET Web Application and Implementing Role Based Security within ASP.NET using Windows Authentication and SQL Server. I also linked to Scott Mitchell's great ASP.NET 2.0 Security, Membership and Roles Tutorials that cover how to use Forms Authentication and the new Membership/Roles APIs in ASP.NET for Internet based web applications. These tutorials covers how to implement authentication on your site, which is the process of identifying who an incominguser is. They also demonstrate how to implement role based management on your site, which allows you to logically group individual users into higher-level...(

November 6th-10th are the dates for this fall's ASP.NET Connections Conference at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas. If you are looking for a great conference with a ton of ASP.NET, .NET Framework, Visual Studio, SharePoint, and SQL Server content, this is the perfect event for you (there are over 40uniqueASP.NET talks alone, and more than 200 sessions total across all tracks). Several people from my team will be presenting, and I'll personally be doing a broad keynote, an ASP.NET AJAX (aka "Atlas") "coding on the fly" keynote, a LINQ data talk, a ASP.NET Tips and Tricks session, as well as an openQ&A session. The DevConnections team really do a great job putting on this event, and the facilities and organization is superb. I hope to meet...(

Today we launched a Chinese and German content section on the www.asp.net web-site (so you can find localized articles, blogs, forums and other community sites). This adds to the Spanish, French and English versions already available. You can switch your language preference in the top-right of the site to filter the content of the www.asp.net site,or link to them directly here: Chinese French Spanish German English We also updated the Videos Section on the www.asp.net site with a new index. If you haven't checked out the videos lately, I'd recommend making a pass through them. There are about 80+ now on the site, with 1-2 new ones being added each week. They provide a great way to learn about new features. Hope this helps, Scott

This morning we launched the Simplified Chinese section and the German section on www.asp.net to provide web developer content in those specific languages. I’d like to say a special thank you to the community members who helped review the sites before launching, specifically Xuegen Jin, Colt Kwong, Junmin Lui, Shijie Ma, Michael Schwarz, Zhenlin Tan, Damir Tomicic, Alexander Zeitler, Xinglin Zhu, and Ye Zhu. If you find additional content that is missing, or are interested in another language that we don’t currently provide, please let me know. I hope you enjoy these new additions to the www.asp.net site. Thanks, Simon. Read More...
