If links were to ever lose their value to other relevancy mechanisms those mechanisms would likely be some form of attention and linguistic profiling.

One of the questions I was recently asked at a user group meeting in Europe was whether it was possible to use ASP.NET AJAX within SharePoint 2007 solutions. This was a common enough question that the SharePoint team recently blogged about their plans with ASP.NET AJAX to help answer it. You can read their post here . At a highlevel, official support for ASP.NET AJAX within SharePoint will be coming with the first service pack of SharePoint 2007. This is because SharePoint 2007 shipped before ASP.NET AJAX 1.0 did, and so there is some work the SharePoint team needs to-do to make it integrate nicely. In the meantime, though, you can read the SharePoint team's blog post here on how to install ASP.NET AJAX 1.0 on a SharePoint 2007 site and start...(

Site design can be outsourced. So can programming, writing, and project management, but if you are not giving up an equity stake, and expect your workers to be the ideas guy eventually they are going to quit...at least if they have ideas worth sharing. As an entrepreneur you either need to have a lot of capital to invest and/or be the ideas guy.

MySpace grew too big to keep any sort of community feel the way that Digg has. It tried appealing to too large of an audience, and now it has no value outside of tracking the latest spam offers.

Blaine Wastell, a Program Manager here at p&p, has started his own blog on MSDN. Blaine and I have worked together on the Web Client Software Factory and are continuing to work together on the Smart Client Software Factory , where I will be the Dev Lead. His first blog post outlines the Plan for Smart Client Software Factory April Update . We are planning a small, but impactful release. Let us know what you think using the SCSF CodePlex community site . In the meantime, we will continue supporting the WCSF community and taking input for the next version of the WCSF, which should have work commencing as soon as we ship the SCSF update (if not before). The order you place things in tells readers of your site what you think is most important. If you are in a competitive marketplace it is hard to compete if you place other brands or ads above your content.

When working with numerous doclinks in a Notes/Domino application, it's easy to lose track of them. This LotusScript code from SearchDomino.com member Benoit Dubuc finds and validates all doclinks in a Lotus Notes database.

I just stumbled across a great applicationservice called Cozi . It is basically a family management app targeted at the kitchen PC as well as web and mobile front ends. While I have only played with it a bit, I think it is a cool example of a new generation service-centric, user experience centered applications. Think of applications that: 1. Are a front end to a cloud or network hosted service (in Cozi's case, it is family colander, messages, etc.) 2. Are connected by nature, but support offline, desktop integration, etc 3. Offers a a variety of options of accessing the service (over the web, via a desktop application, and mobile) I have not spoken at all to the Cozi folks (but I'd love to) but they seem to be making great use of the .NET...(

Paul and Bill have officially launched the ILUG 2007 site, so start making your plans now. Me and Rob will be revisiting our error trapping session at the event, and we're just a small part of a tremendous cast of speakers.
I'll probably be buying plane tickets this week. My wife and I are both heading out there for a little vacation on top of the conference. I think the way our schedule will end up is:
- Fly out on Saturday the 19th or Sunday the 20th (it's an overnight flight whenever we do it)
- Do touristy things early in the week
- Do the conference on Thursday and Friday
- Attend the big geek dinner on Friday night
- Recover from said dinner on Saturday
- Fly back on Sunday the 27th
- Have all day on Monday (Memorial Day) to un-jetlag ourselves
That seems like the best way to schedule it, if we can. Flight prices are a tiny bit cheaper flying back on Monday instead of Sunday, but not cheaper enough to make a big difference.
Anyway, it's going to be a great show and Paul and friends are putting a huge amount of effort into it, so try to make it if you can. If nothing else, it's a great excuse for a vacation.
Oh, and I hear that a couple of sponsor spots are still available if you're interested...
